The Jaguar XKE
What a lucky chap am I? In 1962 I was in my third year as
a Pharmacist in Shaftesbury and I had a tiny shop in the High Street.
Business was good and then came the introduction of the XKE. There was a
huge waiting list, but by dint of HP, I managed to get the Red Demonstrator
from the local distributors, Browns of Bath. I collected the car just before
Christmas and then it started to snow. It was one of the worst winters in
memory, Shaftesbury was snowed in and I didn't see the car again for a
month.
My "E" eventually went the way of all cars, in part-ex for something else. However, a few years ago, my son Geremy came across a "barn find" and a total and complete restoration was started. Now complete, the car is in as new condition but incorporates a few mods including a BMW 5-speed box and ventilated discs.
